Miss S had her first outing to the movies yesterday – and man, what a cinema it was. I don't know if I will be able to go to another one again.
We went to see Mao's Last Dancer (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1071812/) at Hamilton's Lido Cinema (www.lidocinema.co.nz). It is just beautiful (both the film and the theatre).
Opulent, glamorous, comfortable – heaven. You can have a coffee, or a wine; they have Rush Munro's icecreams, or Pandoro baked goods. The whole foyer feels like you have just walked into someone's parlour (no-one I know but...)
Now, we did go to an 11am session on a Monday, which probably gave us an unrealistic impression of what it is like the rest of the time – but we were able to sit in a row with ample room to park a buggy (Miss S was asleep when we got there), the seats were more than comfortable, and roomy enough to breast-feed in, and the staff were very friendly. We did have to carry the buggy up a flight of stairs to get in, and I think there would be a dim view taken were you to bring a bunch of three year olds along complete with popcorn and lollies- but we enjoyed our movie and Miss S was a dream.
If you have a baby – I wouldn't be afraid to take it along to a daytime session at the Lido, I know I'll be trying to do it again – and if you're looking for somewhere to go on date night, put it at the top of your list.
